From the reading I've done though, and from what I saw first hand, there's really no wear on the shims themselves. The wear is at the valve seats in the head.Morrison's Garagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13892611733023662399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-82527681441598593982017-08-10T04:33:10.973-04:002017-08-10T04:33:10.973-04:00Hello.

Do you replace only the out of spec shims or each one? It seems like the carbonization layer of the steel shim would wear over time and even if the shim is not currently out of spec it would be softer and wear faster. So it would make sense to replace them all.

Very very cool blog I will continue to follow glad I stumbled onto this website. It turns out the previous owner made this connection with just a hose and two squeeze clamps. I had no clue it needed a 90 degree quick connector until I stumbled upon your blog.
Cheers!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10692180711976490368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-82900420768351187352015-03-28T09:41:55.520-04:002015-03-28T09:41:55.520-04:00Michael,

After a dealer upgrade to...Thanks for posting this! After a dealer upgrade to v33, my system fails daily instead of occasionally. After ruining the hard drives on two iPods (coincidence, but after use in the car? hmm...) The system in my car always defaults to an old song on one of the iPods that I deleted off of all my USB flash drives because I now despise it. Imagine hearing the same exact song intro EVERY SINGLE TIME you start the car! That tells me files are cached somewhere and I'm starting to think dropping the entire car off a cliff is the only way to solve this. I'll keep reading for a while but so far the update to v33 took my car from bad to much worse. Here's hoping that Mazda will recall this system and make a new one with an effing power button on it at least! It's got a ton of other minor bugs that annoy the snot out of me (I can't scroll in longer songs, can't skip others, can't access the menus, etc.) Navigation seems to work fine for the most part though. After a couple years of regular use the driver side bolster was getting worn. Worse than that, though, was how hot the vinyl got in the Florida heat. They don't breathe at all, so my back, butt, and the back of my legs would get soaked with sweat almost every time I drove the car. Not good. I've since switched to a pair of Covercraft Spacer Mesh seat covers and they are MUCH nicer. They breathe fantastically and look just as good as the Iggees. No more sweaty back, even in hot weather. Sorry to say the Iggees didn't work out.Morrison's Garagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13892611733023662399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-64473904957269481132014-07-30T00:53:12.673-04:002014-07-30T00:53:12.673-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Brown Amyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04666128808388900790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-65256175854026113872014-07-10T14:39:41.101-04:002014-07-10T14:39:41.101-04:00Just a follow-up. So that original compressor was definitely weak. I tested it just before I took it out and it was only at 100 on the high side, so not really compressing very much. The system still blew sorta cold cruising at speed. Now with the new compressor it is nice and cold, even at idle.Morrison's Garagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13892611733023662399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-76616558074060620282014-06-20T14:37:52.849-04:002014-06-20T14:37:52.849-04:00Hi. I ordered a fuel line connector along with some other parts and unfortunately when I started the project I noticed the connector was missing from the package. I went and installed the head anyway and just clamped the fuel line on the rail. I made sure to check it every time I got in the car. Sure enough, a couple of weeks later I saw the line had started to slide down the pipe. Today when I went to finally put on the connector I found the line was about to fall off and I could see fuel starting to leak at the connection. The car wouldn't have made it down the block down the road
Thanks for the writeup.

DaveDavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16737912303837956612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-12481042872841407622014-06-16T18:24:50.734-04:002014-06-16T18:24:50.734-04:00Just to follow up on this post - the weirdness wit...Just to follow up on this post - the weirdness with the ECU continued until I finally just replaced it. I'll check and see if I have any photos but I don't believe there's anything critical about the vacuum connections. I just made sure that everything that needed vacuum is connected to a vacuum source and any extra ports are capped. I don't have the VICS actuator on the '99 head hooked up and I removed the carbon canister and its solenoid, so I think I'm only using one or two vacuum lines.

I've had no idle issues. I used LED's that shoot light in 5 directions instead of just straight ahead so there don't seem to be any bright spots. It looks quite normal, just a little brighter and cooler in color temperature. I used 7 separate LED's. One for each gauge and the turn signals. Those all use the same lamp. All the other indicator lamps are smaller and I didn't bother replacing them because they're hardly ever lit.Morrison's Garagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13892611733023662399noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12530755.post-543213240344849172012-02-17T14:36:08.343-05:002012-02-17T14:36:08.343-05:00LEDs look great.
